IELTS Results are calculated on a Band scale of 9. The scores are represented on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 9 (highest).

  • Can handle complex argumentation
7 Good User
  • Operational command over English language with some inaccuracies, improper use & misunderstanding in some situations
  • Ability to handle complex language
  • Understand detailed reasoning
6 Competent User
  • Effective command over English Language with rare inaccuracies, wrong usage & some misunderstandings
  • Fair understanding & usage of English in likely situations
5 Modest User
  • Practical command over English Language
  • Understand overall meaning though you tend to make many mistakes
  • Can handle basic communication in familiar situations
4 Limited User
  • Basic competency is limited to well-known situations
  • Frequent problems in understanding & expressing the meaning
  • Incapability to use complex language
3 Extremely Limited User
  • Convey & understand general meaning in likely situations
  • Frequent failures in communication
2 Intermittent User
  • Great difficulty to understand as well as speak and write English Language
1 Non-user
  • Inability to use English Language except a few isolated words
0 Did not attempt the Test
  • Did not answer any questions

Calculating Overall IELTS Band Score

Scores for each module of the IELTS Test – Listening, Speaking, Reading & Writing – are weighed equally. The overall band score is calculated by taking an average of the total scores of all the four modules.

When will the IELTS Test Result be available?

How long is the IELTS Exam Score valid for?

The IELTS Score is valid for two years; with no limit on how many times you can use it whether for study, work or migration.
